CASE HISTORIES

The Challenges

Deepwater Offshore Operator drilling with 14.4ppg Synthetic Base Fluid in Green Canyon Field Gulf Of Mexico, experiencing severe fluid losses.

Solutions/Product Recommendations

Operator had a Contingency Plan in place using PROCOR products. The recommendation included 35bbls of PRO HG immediately followed by 80 bbls of PRO V+ Products used for Extreme Fluid losses.

Objective

Pills were mixed at 80ppb in water. Recommendation was to squeeze shoe and area just below it using a hesitation squeeze procedure. Squeeze pill was spotted just 10’ above shoe, then TOH just above top of pill. Squeezed no more than 5bbls every two hours until desired pressure was achieved and held.

Results

Operator wanted 900 psi, squeeze held 1400 psi with minimal bleed off over a 12 hour period. Well had no more issues with fluid loss after squeeze. Everything went perfectly, and job was successful.

The Challenges

Operator drilling in South Texas/ Gonzales County, TX, needed to improve and build integrity across the Austin Chalk to try an eliminate a string of pipe - "Austin Chalk" 9200'TVD - 400' thick. Geology assumes the weak fractured areas is 50-70' in the center.

Solutions/Product Recommendations

PROCOR recommended mixing and having a sweep batch built and ready to pump @ 35ppb (15ppb PRO V+, 10ppb PRO TightCeal Medium and 10ppb SB Superceal) to be prepared for losses drilling in to the "Austin Chalk". On the 1H well complete returns were lost and conventional LCM did not work. Once the "Chalk" was exposed we recommended running our open hole integrity squeeze across the Chalk.

Results

We began pumping sweeps approximately 200' prior to entering the "Austin Chalk" to try an prevent any losses from occurring. Sweeps prevented losses. Once the "Chalk was completely exposed, we mixed up an 80ppb "Aggressive LCM" pill (70ppb PRO V+, 5ppb PRO Tightceal Medium and 5ppb SB Superceal). The pill was spotted across the "Chalk", pulled pipe into surface casing shoe and performed "Open Hole" squeeze. Desired pressure was acheived of 11.4 EMW / 11.8ECD.

Note: Production hole was drilled without running intermediate string of pipe.

The Challenges

After washing last joint down, while installing cement head all returns were lost. 5 hours of circulating with zero returns with casing on bottom. CRT was rigged back up and worked casing up/down while attempting to regain returns.

Solutions/Product Recommendations

PROCOR recommended 20 bbl sweeps of 5 ppb SB superceal / 10 ppb PRO X / 10 ppb PRO V+ was mixed and sent around. As soon as it left the shoe the second sweep was sent as follows: 1 x 40 bbl sweep of 10 ppb SB superceal / 20 ppb PRO X / 20 ppb PRO V+; Returns were established after second sweep hit shallow loss zone. 80 bbl pre-cement spacer of 10 ppb SB SuperCeal/ 30 ppb PRO V+ / 30 ppb PRO X utilized instead of cement company spacer.

Results

Returns were established after zero returns for 5 hours of continuous pumping with just two sweeps. PROCOR Products were also utilized as Pre-Cement Spacer to finish sealing off the losses. 224bbls of cement to surface.

Operator Comments

"This is exactly why we keep PROCOR on our location at all times. The time and money saved from us being able to regain returns after landing our surface casing and not having returns for 5 straight hours of pumping is amazing. Nothing stops progress on a well faster than dealing with not getting cement to surface. Then busting off a solid 224 bbls of cement to surface After no returns is just flat out impressive."
